It is always less expensive to prevent problems tha it is to remedy subsequent damage. Many tasks and downtimes can be avoided, particularly when operationg machines and systems, if available options are fully utilised during maintenance. However, this is frequently not the case because the know-how is lacking or because the necessary tools are not available. But it is essential in this day and age to optimise the condition of operating equipment in order to increase one´s own competitiveness.

• Can the next order still be implemented with this machine?
• Is a revision of the machine due in the near future?
• What is the condition of the insulation after a long service life?
• Are the bearings still good?
• How is the vibration behaviour of the system?

The answers to these questions require work which should be included in a sound budget plan.

Investigations during troubleshooting after a failure are also useful:

• Was the machine correctly aligned?
• Where is the cause of the vibrations that led to the failure?
• Where is the insulation fault?
